Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil has urged MADANI Communities nationwide to take on the crucial responsibility of ensuring the public receives accurate, verified and reliable information about the government's policies, initiatives and achievements. Speaking at the Jiwa MADANI programme in Kota Bharu on June 16, he emphasised that this task should not fall solely on government agencies such as the Information Department (JAPEN) and the Community Communications Department (J-KOM).
Fahmi highlighted several significant government accomplishments that warrant wider public awareness. He pointed to food security measures, including the maintenance of adequate rice stockpiles during festive celebrations through the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security. He also referenced the eCOSS (Cooking Oil Price Stabilisation Scheme System), which has made subsidised cooking oil readily accessible to consumers under the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living.
"These are among the achievements under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim that must be communicated to the people by MADANI Communities," Fahmi stated. During the event, he formally presented appointment letters to Kelantan MADANI Community leaders for the 2026-2027 term.
The Communications Ministry intends to conduct periodic briefing sessions to equip community leaders with current information and details about government programmes that require grassroots communication. JAPEN has been assigned responsibility for assessing the performance of MADANI Communities to maintain their effectiveness in disseminating information at the community level.
Fahmi warned that inactive MADANI Communities would face consequences, including potential replacement of their leadership. "We will ask JAPEN to act swiftly if any MADANI Community is found to be inactive. If that happens, we will make the necessary changes, including replacing those who are not performing," he stated.
