The judge overseeing the 1MDB trial has concluded that former Prime Minister Najib Razak demonstrated no contrition and sought to evade personal accountability throughout the proceedings.
According to the trial judge's assessment, Najib leveraged his considerable authority as prime minister to orchestrate what ranks among the world's most significant cases of financial corruption and illegal money transfers. The former leader's abuse of his high office proved fundamental to the scheme's execution.
The judge's findings indicate that Najib's conduct throughout the legal process reflected an unwillingness to accept responsibility for his actions. Instead, he repeatedly attempted to deflect culpability onto others involved in the scandal.
The 1MDB case has captured international attention as one of the defining financial crimes of recent years, involving the misappropriation of billions of dollars from the state investment fund.
