Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has urged the government to prioritise attracting foreign investment in artificial intelligence and quantum computing technologies over engaging in divisive political disputes. Speaking at the PH Grand Rally "Justice for the People of Johor" in Muar on June 15, Anwar emphasised that these technological advances are essential for securing Malaysia's competitive position and building prosperity for future generations.
Anwar highlighted recent initiatives to bring AI infrastructure and data centre investments into the country, pointing to his recent Japan visit where quantum computing technology was explored. He stressed that Malaysia's future prosperity depends on embracing these emerging technologies rather than becoming mired in endless communal and political arguments.
"If politics is just about fighting day in and day out over Chinese, Malay, Indian, temples, and mosques, just endless bickering, when are we going to take care of this country?" Anwar asked during his address. He called on all Malaysians—regardless of ethnicity—to work collaboratively in building the nation and elevating it to great-power status on the global stage.
The Prime Minister, who also leads PKR and the Pakatan Harapan coalition, cautioned political leaders and parties against exploiting communal sentiments and hatred. He stressed that effective political leadership requires listening to citizens' genuine concerns and focusing on tangible development outcomes rather than stoking divisive emotions.
Anwar noted that Malaysia's growing international reputation means the nation no longer needs to actively campaign for foreign investment—companies are increasingly choosing to establish operations here. He urged citizens to seize this momentum by demonstrating unity and commitment to national development, dismissing the notion that such achievements are beyond Malaysia's capability.
