Three suspects in their 30s—a mechanic, workshop owner and cleaner—were apprehended in Pekan on June 15 following allegations that they sold and forged medical leave certificates. The arrests came after the District Health Office (PKD) filed a report on June 10 concerning the fraudulent documents, according to Pekan police chief Supt Mohd Zaidi Mat Zin.

An individual who purchased one of the fake certificates alerted authorities, revealing that the documents originated from a government clinic and were being sold commercially. The certificates were priced between RM50 and RM200 depending on the type. A medical officer whose name was printed on the forgeries confirmed he had been transferred elsewhere in 2023 and that the stamp used was obsolete.

Investigators believe the scheme operated with a structured approach, where the three detained individuals served as intermediaries responsible for locating buyers and handling transactions. Police are actively searching for the principal suspect, believed to be a female civil servant employed at a clinic, who is alleged to have supplied the forged certificates.

The three arrested individuals will be presented before Pekan Magistrate's Court for a remand hearing on June 16. Investigators are pursuing charges under Sections 468 and 420 of the Penal Code, which address forgery and fraud offences.
